Survival situations are inherently hazardous. You are likely lost or incapacitated, exhausted, sleep deprived, hungry, and stressed. That makes for a perfect formula for injuring yourself or eating or drinking something that makes you sick. In this video Dave Canterbury reviews medicinal plants, common herbs, plant properties, food & medicine, types of preparations & uses, creating a decoction, various trees and plants, examples of carminatives and more. Dave Canterbury is a master woodsman with over 20 years of experience working in many dangerous environments. His common sense approach to survivability is recognized as one of the most effective systems of teaching known today. While this video focuses on medicinal plants that are found in the eastern woodlands of the Unites States, these plants are likely to be found in other settings as well. Learning these may help you survive, no matter where you are.

Good DVD. This video shows a lot of common trees and plants that have some medicinal value. Has good summary video at the end. An example is how to get vitamin C in North America without lemons or oranges. Pine needles….Pine needle tea. Lots of info about a lot of plants and trees. Useful video.

Good information and Dave does a good job of showing the camera the different plants. It was easier for me to identify from this video than some books!

This is an excellent primer to get you started on using herbs. There are many plants that are considered weeds in a suburban lawn that are useful if you know what you are looking at.

The 12th video in the Panteao Productions “Make Ready to Survive” series. Medicinal Plants provides a comprehensive overview of commonly available herbs, plants, and trees that have medicinal properties and can be used to provide rudimentary first aid in a wilderness survival situation. This video is hosted by Dave Canterbury (author of the Bushcraft series of books and the founder of the Pathfinder School) and covers a lot of material. One of the great things about this 13-disc set from Panteao is that it does a nice job of transitioning from urban survival to woodland survival concepts.
