About Video

In a market saturated with information about the combative use of a handgun comes a much-needed practical perspective from the 2010 Law Officer Trainer of the Year, Dave Spaulding. For the Handgun Combatives videos, Spaulding draws on what he has learned in more than 35 years of law enforcement and federal security experience to show you what fighting with a pistol is really like. Spaulding readily admits that much of what he knows about shooting he learned from others, because he made it his business to learn from the best. Spaulding then takes this hard-earned knowledge and adds his own unique, combat-proven twists.

In the first part of Handgun Combatives, Spaulding focuses on shooting essentials. Shooting a handgun is pretty simple, says Spaulding. Whether you are an elite military or police marksman or a civilian who keeps a handgun for self-defense situations, firing a handgun involves the same mechanics: draw, hold, aim, and shoot. By keeping these moves simple and consistent, you increase your chances dramatically of hitting what you target when lives are at stake. From grip, stance, weapon retention, concealed draws, seated shooting to live-fire drills— everything in this video is geared to helping you become a much more confident, efficient, and proficient handgun shooter. Mastering these essential skills is crucial because they will determine whether you prevail in an armed encounter. And surviving a gunfight is not good enough—prevailing is the only acceptable outcome.

This video was originally produced by Paladin Press and is now presented by Panteao Productions. It is presented in a format preserving the 4:3 aspect ratio of its original standard definition recording.

A very good dvd I watch years ago and now it’s great to see it here on Panteao Productions. You’ll learn a lot of good concepts here from weapons safety, marksmanship, drawing from a holster, reloading techniques and much. A dvd I recommend for beginner or experienced shooter.

I am very new to firearms. I am in my late 30s. I am married and have a very active family. My wife’s and my parents are also aging and require quite a bit of our time. I did not grow up shooting firearms. When I took my CCW class, it cause me to feel a bit overwhelmed with fear over the enormous responsibility I was signing up for…carrying a firearm for self defensive purposes. So next I signed up for a basic pistol handling class. I walked away from that feeling a little better but I still had thoughts running through my mind of not really knowing what I was getting into or how I was going to get to a competent level of handling my firearm where I felt comfortable carrying it on me all the time. I remember literally feeling like I was back in grade school learning how to use a pencil to make the letters of the alphabet…but not yet knowing how to write cohesive sentences or paragraphs. I realized I needed some kind of plan that I could work from little by little to get to a level that I needed to be in order to at least feel confident enough to conceal carry. As with many people, my mentor became the books I received from those first two classes as well as the internet. The internet is good as long as you ask a question of your self and search for multiple perspectives to answering that question before you make up your mind. But let me tell you, that is extremely time consuming. I’m going to capitalized the next line of this review because I truly feel you can’t go wrong with what I’m about to say. IF YOU ARE LIKE ME, AND YOU ARE BRAND NEW TO SHOOTING OR JUST RECEIVED YOUR CCW, THIS VIDEO IS THE PERFECT…ABSOLUTELY PERFECT NEXT STEP TO TAKE. Dave has already went through the process of spending many years determining what works and what doesn’t. Don’t waste your time going through that on your own. He covers so many good topics in this video, you will walk away feeling relieved that you can now plan your next steps in what to do and how to train in order to become a responsible concealed carry husband/wife, father/mother, son/daughter, and civilian. I can’t wait to watch part 2 and I’m looking forward to continuing my training, knowing that I have the wisdom of those who came before me helping to guide my path. Dave truly is Godsent.

Got 5 of Spaulding’s Handgun Combatives DVD’s from old school Paladin Press. Along with the usual suspects of Kelly McCann, Cirillo, and some of the other gun specialists. Spaulding covers a lot of the same material as the other DVD’s, but he goes into more detail. I’ve never seen many of the drills and info Spaulding gives you…he breast feeds it all to you. Highly recommended.

If I had to pick one pistol DVD series, I’d go with Spaulding.
