In our expanding K9 series of videos, we will be introducing you to the dog sport of Schutzhund. Schutzhund is a German word meaning “protection dog.” Schutzhund work concentrates on three parts: tracking, obedience, and protection. While originally developed as a breed evaluation test specifically for the German Shepherd dog, today dogs from other breeds actively train and compete in the sport. Schutzhund measures the dog’s mental stability, endurance, structural efficiencies, ability to scent, willingness to work, courage, and trainability.
In this video series, we will walk you through each aspect of Schutzhund training, showing you how to train your dog for obedience, tracking, and protection work. We’ll also review the three levels of titling and Schutzhund competition.
Lewis Lundy is the owner of Lundy Training Kennels and LeHa German Shepherd Dogs. He is also the training director for Carolina Shutzhund Club. Lewis has been training dogs for 34 years in obedience and Shutzhund.
