McNamara is a unique individual with his humor and certain terminology that I won’t repeat. He does not spend a lot of time on the basics like grip, trigger control , etc.. like most video’s do. For example this is his instructions for the correct stance “Just stand up” that’s all there is to it. The video spends a a lot of time with practical drills while timing his efficiency on the clock. His demonstration of balancing accuracy vs. time when it comes to competition is paramount that is if you want to win. He has written a couple of books and the first one I would read is T.A.P.S . It would be a good read along with the video. He does keep your attention with his motivation and you can notice his leadership skills that will keep you wanting a a Version 2 of his Pistol Taps!

Mac has an odd personality that can hinder initial appreciation of his talent, knowledge and ability teach stuff. Get over what his appearance or mannerism might make you think at first, because there is a lot worth hearing from him.

Mac talks a lot about performance based training, as opposed to results based. This is really valuable advice that is something worth at least giving deep thought, for any level of shooter.

I’d say this course is very good info for someone that has taken a couple serious firearms classes and wants to consider improving their own practice routines to promote better growth.

Mac is also hilarious and super positive. He’d be a crazy workout partner to have.

  3. David

His approach is good and I liked his style. He provides some simple basics and then moves on to different drills. I was expecting to see more varied skills such as malfunction clearing.

  4. Walter Jennings

Good instructor. Lots of funny sayings.

  5. Siim Oja

Great for novice shooters and shooting instructors. Entertaining and knowlegeble, good drills for followthru and basic techniques.

  6. Ruben

Pat Mac is a God. The video seems to be more geared towards instructors who want to develop a strong training program, however just as a civilian shooter it will also provide you with a good base to start training and develop real skill with a pistol.

  7. PHILIP WYLIE

Informative and down to earth reality instruction. Great drills that are building and honing my firearm skills.

  8. Daniel Warner

This video is a fantastic resource for someone just getting started with pistol shooting. Expect a realistic approach to the subject without any fluff, hence tactical applications – real-world principles from someone who’s been there.

Great stuff! This is the third video I’ve purchased from Panteao and it hit the mark with what I needed to focus on to empower my pistol skills. If you’re new to pistol training, I’d recommend starting with Dave Spaulding’s Essentials of Combat Pistolcraft before moving on to this video. However, if you’ve had some training in the past and are just needing to knock the rust off, then this is the video for you. The first impression you’re likely to get is that Pat Mac is a first-class firearms instructor. Not only is his skill top-notch, but he’s very interesting (and entertaining) to listen to. Beyond that, he has an uncanny way of fostering confidence, to the point that I felt like even the more difficult drills were doable–and I hadn’t even stepped outside yet.

I know he’s a busy man, but I hope Pat Mac continues to make more videos like this one. Next up for me is Carbine Taps (and I don’t even own a carbine yet!).

After viewing the Rifle TAPS video, I had to view the pistol version of this training methodology. From the reason of weapon selection to marksmanship enhancement drills, all bases are covered. This video is 100%.

Coolest style, solid teaching, outstanding performance, I highly recommended.

What a character. Great info, enthusiasm, charisma, and drills.

  13. David Garrett

Pat has the best way of teaching in the game. He is friendly, relatable, and relays his wealth of knowledge and experience clearly and concisely. He does not mince words. He is also a really funny guy.

The real nugget for me, and it made a huge difference in my shooting, was his conversation on trigger finger position. I followed his advice and boom, starting shooting about 15% better right away. I taught myself to shoot, so videos like this help me so much.

This knowledge is invaluable. We always look at the great warriors of the past and wonder “how did they do it??” Now we can literally receive instruction and hear directly from the great warriors of today, themselves. If you’re a fan of martial arts at all, this is great stuff.

  14. Nick Dubuque

One of the best teachers out there. This video gets straight to the point, no extra blah blah, no fluff just the meat and potatoes. If you get a to train with him, go for with out hesitation.
