About Video

Today you can purchase a 1911 pistol and right out of the box, you will have a handgun that will serve you well in both competition shooting as well as for personal defense. That said, the 1911 pistol is probably the most customizable handgun on the market. In many instances, as soon as one is purchased, parts are swapped out. In this video, Hilton Yam starts off with a Springfield Armory Operator and utilizing various aftermarket parts, customizes it in a manner you can do yourself with some gunsmithing tools.

Hilton starts with the essentials. He reviews field stripping, detail stripping, major parts prep, lapping the slide to the frame, polishing internals, feed ramp and barrel throat polishing, barrel prep, ejector, grip screw bushing and grip panels, the plunger tube, fitting the extractor, the trigger, slide stop, mag catch, setting the trigger weight, thumb and grip safeties, magwell, dehorning, sight installation, metal refinish, and he wraps it up with test firing.

Hilton Yam is a retired FBI Special Agent. During a career of over 21 years in the Miami Field Office, one the FBI’s largest and busiest, he was assigned to bank robbery, fugitives, and firearms training. He spent 19 years on SWAT and served as his team’s principal instructor for firearms, CQB, and tactics. Hilton is also the founder of 10-8 Performance, a company specializing in premium components and sights for the 1911 as well as other handguns.

This video, at over six hours long, is not for the 1911 novice. If you are serious about working on your 1911, then this video is for you.
